The Department of International Chinese includes a wide range of research orientations like international Chinese teaching theory and practice, studies in bilingual teaching, and overseas Chinese studies. The advantages and distinctiveness of the programme are as follows:
1.培养目标：本专业培养既具有系统、扎实的汉语言文学的基本理论知识和技能，又具有跨文化交际理论，同时具备较高的人文素质及较宽厚的相关学科知识，能用双语进行交流、教学，对中国文学、中国文化及中外文化交往有较全面的了解，能在国内外有关部门、各类学校、新闻出版、文化管理和企事业单位从事对外汉语教学及中外文化交流等相关工作的应用性、职业型高级专门人才。
1. Objectives: the Department of International Chinese offers a TCSOL programme and is dedicated to the development of innovative and practical talents with a good command of the basic theories and principles of the Chinese language and literature, remarkable humane accomplishments, a wide range of knowledge regarding cross-cultural communication theories and relevant disciplines, familiarity with Chinese literature, Chinese culture and Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges, and excellent abilities in communicating and teaching using both Chinese and English. Owing to their solid professional qualifications, graduates will be able to work as teachers teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in universities and schools, translators or interpreters promoting Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges in relevant institutions of cultural management at home and abroad, coordinators and administrators in enterprises and public institutions or publishers etc.

Approaches: the Department of International Chinese combines “teaching” and “research” and provides quality courses and programs for postgraduates, which serve as a professional practice platform for research, teaching observation and teaching practice for the students. The Department boasts the largest database in China covering written works, tests, videos of foreign overseas students from all different grades and their dissertations, providing a wealth of first-hand materials for postgraduates to conduct Chinese language teaching practice and research.
引导学生研究教材、大纲、规范、试题、课件等教工具，了解其背后的设计理念、思路以及使用技巧，将导师们积累的丰富的研发经验传授给研究生，引导他们学习设计、制作教学工具的方法。
Students should get acquainted with their text books, syllabus, specifications, tests and the PowerPoint and need to understand the relevant design principles, ideas and usage. The Department of International Chinese employs a joint development model, requiring supervisors from both on and off campus who provide instructions and supervision for the postgraduates. Prestigious experts and scholars are also regularly invited to give lectures or to offer courses that broaden students’ academic horizons and enable them to appreciate the thoughts and features of different academic schools. Their different styles of research help provide the students with a solid theoretical foundation which enables them to independently carry out academic research.
定期开展研究生学术交流活动，导师进行横向联合，对研究生的论文集体点评，集体指导，拓展研究生的研究领域，最大程度地发挥导师的横向联合指导作用，实现导师资源的互补和共享。
