Students of SWJTU Awarded in the Finals of 2023 FLTRP/ETIC Cup “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students

2023 FLTRP/ETIC Cup Understanding Contemporary China National Foreign Language Contest for College Students started in November 2023. After three rounds of contests, 11 contestants from Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) achieved six silvers and five bronzes in the national finals.

The FLTRP/ETIC Cup Understanding Contemporary China National Foreign Language Contest for College Students was organized by Beijing Foreign Studies University and hosted by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP). The contest comprises two major groups, namely the English group and the multilingual group. It has gone through three rounds or levels, namely, the school-level competition, the provincial-level competition, and the national-level final. Nearly one million college students from over 1,300 universities and colleges participated in this event, showcasing their competency, narrating stories about China skillfully, and strengthening Chinas voice.

English language education in China is of greater importance as the country is moving closer to center stage in the global arena, and talents with a global perspective and high English proficiency are in need. The School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of SWJTU aims at enhancing students comprehensive language abilities and nurturing talents with global competence, critical thinking, and creativity. The awards students of SWJTU achieved fully show the talent of students, the professionalism of teachers of SFL, and the school’s progress in cultivating students English-speaking abilities and cross-cultural critical awareness.
