At 2 p.m. on November 4, 2018, the Irish Literature Salon was successfully held in Xipu Campus X1408. Professor Li Chengjian, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, Southwest Jiaotong University presided over the salon. Professor Jerusha McCormark, an honorary professor of the University of Dublin and the University of Geneva, an international comparative scholar of Chinese and Western literature, Professor John Blair, an international comparative scholar of Chinese and Western culture, and Professor Xia Yanhua, a professor of the College of Foreign Languages, China West Normal University, served as special guests. Postgraduate students from all grades of the College of Foreign Languages attended the event with a warm atmosphere.

This seminar is a multi-angle discussion on Irish literature. At the beginning of the seminar, Professor Li Chengjian, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages, delivered a welcome speech and expressed sincere thanks and a warm welcome to the three experts present. Subsequently, our graduate students have made academic reports. First of all, with the theme of "the English Translation of Chuang Tzu by Wilde and Jaris", Jiang Jing, a doctoral student, combed Wilde's acceptance of Chuang Tzu and explored the media influence in the communication between China and the West. Then, postgraduate students Huang Yirou, Liu Jixing, and Yang Zhonglan respectively made relevant explanations on the themes of "Japanese Acceptance of Irish Literature in the 19th Century", "Half-man Image in Tom Murphy's Drama", "English Irish: A Comparison between Duyle's Image in Another Island of the English man and Owen's image in Translation". From different perspectives, we have made a multi-dimensional discussion on the relationship between Chinese and Irish literature and the Irish identity and Irish nature expressed in Irish dramas. Professor Jerusha Mccormark, Professor John Blair, and Professor Xia Yanhua respectively commented on Wilde's acceptance of Chuang Tzu, the concept of "half-man" in the academic report, and the cultural origin of Bernard Shaw and Freer's plays. Experts' comments are profound and enlightening, and teachers and students here benefit a lot. Finally, Professor Li Chengjian made a summary of the symposium. She expressed sincere thanks to the three professors and told the graduates here to lay a good foundation for research, sort out research ideas and logic, and improve their academic level through continuous learning. The symposium was successfully concluded with warm applause and a fruitful harvest.
