An Online Chinese Language Partner and Teaching Program as a cooperative project was launched

 

 

Under the leadership of Ren Xiankai, Assistant Dean of our college and teacher of the Chinese Department, our college's Department of International Chinese and Assistant Professor Gao Gengsong of the University of Richmond launched an Online Chinese Language Partner and Teaching Program as a cooperative project.

On the morning of July 1, 2019, the kick-off meeting of the cooperation project was held in the conference room 1511 of the Xipu Campus. In addition to Assistant Professor Gao Gengsong and Associate Professor Ren Xiankai, there were also Assistant Professor Lin Jia from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and some graduate students from the Department of International Chinese, College of Humanities and the College of Foreign Languages, participating in the project.

Under the chairmanship of Ren Xiankai, Assistant Professor Gao gengsong first introduced the current situation of Chinese teaching in the University of Richmond and then introduced the content and requirements of this teaching cooperation project. In this cooperation project, the postgraduate students participating in the project will conduct one-to-one online teaching with the American students in the Chinese class of the University of Richmond. The graduate students participating in the project will carry out teaching work through e-mail, one-to-one video discussion, group discussion, and task guidance exercises, to help American college students learn Chinese more efficiently, feel Chinese culture more intuitively, and form a more comprehensive understanding of contemporary China.

After the introduction of the content of the project, the graduate students involved in the project had a deep discussion on the teaching focus, the implementation of the specific steps of teaching activities, and the prediction of teaching effect. At the end of the meeting, Assistant Professor Gao Gengsong proposed the work requirements and arranged the work plan for the graduate students who will join in the project. The event will be officially launched at the end of August.
