Prof. Lin Ke Wins the Provincial Award for Translation-sfl.swjtu.edu.cn

    Prof. Lin Ke of the Department of German, School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of SWJTU won the Literature translation Award of the Eighth Sichuan Literature Award on November 27, 2015.

    "Sichuan literature Award" is one of the two highest provincial literature awards, including eight categories: novels, poetry, prose, reportage, children’s literature, literature translation, film scripts and play scripts, and literary theoretical criticism. It usually takes half a year for all of the candidate works to go through strict procedures: launching, primary review, expert review, final review and awarding ceremony. Professor Lin Ke was the only one candidate for this year’s "literature translation award”.

    Prof. Lin is a well-known but low profile translator of German poetry, with great concentration on translation. In addition to the award-winning translation of the complete collection of "Georg Trakl Das Dichterische Werk (1887-1914)", Prof. Lin has also translated some other world first-class poets writing poems in German such as Novalis (1772-1801), Rainer Maria Rilke (1875-1926), Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin (1770-1843) and Hermann Hesse (1877-1962). The Austrian poet Georg Trakl as the pioneer of expressionism poetry and Paul Celan (1920-1970) were usually regarded as the two supporting poles of the brilliance of the German poetry in the 20th century. So the translation of Trakl’s works can bring Chinese readers closer to the cultural spirit of those countries speaking German.

    This award is a worthy prize for Prof. Lin’s achievement in translation as well as a great honor for SFL of SWJTU. SFL is now devoted to the prosperity of liberal arts programs, which is an important part of the national “thirteenth five-year plan”. The social influence of foreign language programs will be improved by the award, and the SFL faculty will be greatly encouraged to continue their academic research with more pure passion in “differences between countries and regions based on the cultural exchange between China and other countries”.
