To celebrate its 30th anniversary, SFL hosted its annual event--the 17th International Language and Culture Festival, which consisted of the Opening Ceremony, the Model UN Competition, “SFL’s Most Beautiful Girl Students” Contest and the Closing Ceremony. The closing ceremony and Drama Performance was held on May 9th, where presented were Prof. Tang Yueqin--Vice Dean, Wang Junqi--Deputy Secretary of SFL Party Committee, Prof. Chen Shuyu—Dean of French Department, some class supervisors, some teachers from Students’ Affairs Division, students from both SFL and other schools.
Prof. Tang expressed her gratitude to SFL where she grew from a college student into a teacher in the past 30 years, and sang high praise of the event because she “can see the SFL students’ brilliance outside the classroom”. Prof. Wang sincerely expected the SFL students can hold high the banner of SFL spirit.
The Departments of Translation and Interpreting, German, International Chinese, French and Japanese brought the audience five impressive scenes adapted from five great novels or films, including Anna’s romantic love in Frozen, the sad but beautiful love between Ferdinand von Walter and Luise Miller in Intrigue and Love, the absorbing and tragic love between Lin Daiyu and Jia Baoyu despite the oath between wood and stone in their previous life from A Dream of Red Mansions, the children’s unique insight in Little Prince, and an unexpected story revealed by a Love Letter.  The music, setting, props and lines varied from scene to scene, but all the actors and actresses made every effort to involve mentally and emotionally the audience into their performance and further into the original works. Bravo!
Department of German, as the biggest winner, swept most of the awards including Best Costume Design, Best Supporting Actress (Liao Siyan), Best Actress (Ma Limin), Best Actor (Sun Fangyi), Best Couple (Ma Limin and Sun Fangyi) and Best Creative Director (Xu Zhaoran). The Best Props Award went for Department of French while the Best Supporting Actor (Chen Yanting) for Department of Translation and Interpreting. Department of Japanese and Department of International Chinese respectively received Best Stage Performance Award and Best Script Award.
At the end, SFL students’ leadership, the Festival organizing group, presented a chorus of The Wheat Billowing in the Wind, to conclude their efforts and contribution in the last year. The chairperson of SFL Students’ Union, Shi Zhuxi, placed his great faith in the next Students’ Union to inherit and carry forward the SFL’s spirit.
Undoubtedly, every SFL staff and faculty and student believes that the past 30 years will pave the way for SFL’s healthy growth, fast development and a more promising  future.
