The Vice president briefs the SFL on SWJTU’s alumni work

The vice-president, Pu Yun, of Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU), along with the director of the alumni office, Zhan Feng, and its vice-director, Pan Yu, visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) to speak about developing the alumni work and to give instructions on fund-raising amongst the alumni. The Party Secretary of the SFL, Xu Ge, Deputy Dean, Tang Yueqin, Deputy Party Secretary, Ren Xinhong, Dean Assistant, Yang Anweng and all the department heads attended the meeting.

Mr. Pu pointed out that the alumni are a source of inspiration as well as a reliable support for SWJTU. Therefore, they are valuable assets in the development of the SFL. The Alumni association is no longer just an organization for a traditional social gathering, but rather a platform for the alumni to communicate with each other, and to seek mutual help and encouragement, which brings great benefits to all of them. Therefore, improving the development of the alumni is a win-win situation for both graduates and SWJTU, as it will reflect the SFL’s brand values and its teaching successes. Pu pointed out that  developing the alumni association was an urgent requirement, but that it also needed the joint efforts of all sides. The SFL should accordingly establish the principle of serving the alumni over the long term, normalize this alumni work, and make efforts to encourage the alumni to make contributions to SWJTU and serve the people and society.

At the meeting, the Party Secretary of the SFL, Xu Ge, said she would spare no efforts in implementing the five-year plan for the development of the alumni and would normalize the relevant work. With one or two years’ endeavor, the alumini will be able to develop a sense of belonging to a favorable environment at SWJTU, and the SFL will make full usage of its alumni resources to maintain this development. The Deputy Dean, Tang Yueqin, said that graduates from the SFL were different from those in science and engineering subjects. Although lots of the SFL students graduated with honors and landed good jobs, they were unable to contribute to SWJTU materially, at least in the short term. However, the SFL would actively promote the development of alumni associations amongst its alumni. The Deputy Party Secretary, Ren Xinhong, said that the SFL would also make use of all its resources to improve the development of the alumni .

After the meeting with Pu, Ms. Xu Ge gathered the SFL leaders to discuss and roll out the plan for the alumni work. Under the guidance of the university, the SFL would set out clear goals for its alumni work and would try to encourage more alumni to support the Alma Mater. She hoped the alumni would be able to meet on the 120th anniversary of SWJTU, and jointly contribute to the betterment of SWJTU.
