Huang Xiaoming, the Dean of the Confucius Institute at Palacký University, is also a professor at the School of Foreign Languages in SWJTU, and an expert on language and culture. Invited by the Applied Linguistics Institute, and the International Mandarin Chinese Promotion Institute in the School of Foreign Languages, he visited the school on the afternoon of December 12th, 2013 and talked with the Czech students studying at SWJTU. Later on, in the evening, he gave a lecture on “understanding international Chinese language education and the practices of the Confucius Institute” to the students and teachers from our school.
Wang Weimin, Executive Vice-Dean, Wang Pengfei, Vice-Dean, Tang Jun, Head of the Applied Linguistics Institute, and Wang Junqi, Dean of the Department of International Chinese, all attended the meeting with Dean Huang. With the aim of forging ahead in international development, both sides exchanged views on the new challenges and problems facing the international promotion of Chinese, the overseas education of students, and the cultivation of foreign languages talents. Dean Huang later met the Czech students, who had once studied Chinese at the Confucius Institute in Palacký University, and who are now studying at SWJTU.
Dean Huang, gave a lecture at 7 o’clock in the evening on “understanding international Chinese language education and the practices of the Confucius Institute” to the students and teachers from our school in the conference hall. He introduced the latest challenges facing the international promotion of Chinese, talked about his own experiences in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and pointed out some problems that we need to pay attention to in the Promotion of International Chinese. After the lecture, Dean Huang engaged in an active question and answer session with the audience, providing significant suggestions on the construction of the discipline of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, as well as on the teaching and scientific research of our school.
