A Review of Doctor Tang Juns Academic Activities



 

Dr. Tang Jun, from the Shool of Foreign Languages, was invited to attend a “Conference in commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the death of Cao Xueqin”  held in Langfang, Hebei province, from November, 22nd to 24th, 2013, where he read out his paper that was titled Slovakia Translation Manuscripts of a Dream of Red Mansion. Professor Yu Xiaohong, the Chairman of the parallel session, introduced his works and achievements  at the School of Foreign Languages in Southwest Jiaotong University concerning the translation studies of A Dream of Red Mansion during this symposium. This was the first ever time that studies of A Dream of Red Mansion conducted by our school were introduced at such an national level academic conference. It attracted great attention from the different regional representatives at the symposium and played a crucial role in deepening the studies of A Dream of Red Mansion.

Dr.Tang was invited to attend the First International Academic Conference on Languages, and the Second Forum of Dialect Pronunciation and Grammar, held on the Donghu Campus of the Changshu Institute of Technology in Jiangsu Province from November, 29th to December, 2nd, 2013. He read a thesis called The Type, and the Syntactic Interpretation, of Agreement in the Tangut Language at the conference, which was an inaugural meeting for language typology held in China, one of the major components of contemporary linguistics. The involvement of our teachers at the meeting was significant in helping connect our linguistic studies with those in international academic circles.

Dr. Tang was invited to attend the Leo Strauss and Classics Studies, and the Second Annual Meeting of Chinese Comparative Classics Society, held between December, 18th to 20th, 2013,  where he read his thesis called The Trans-lingual Change in the Concept of Benevolence in Cao Deli’s Latin Translation of the Analects of Confucius. This conference was jointly organized by the Chinese Comparative Classics Society, the Higher Institutes of Humanities and Social Sciences at Chongqing University, the Higher Institutes of Humanities at Zhongshan University, and the Classical Cultural Research Center at Renmin University. Mr. Tang’s presence was part of an academic exchange with the research institutes of other prestigious universities.
