On August 25th, 2023, the results of the National College English for English Majors-Band 4 (TEM-4) were announced, and students majoring in English at Southwest Jiaotong University have set a new record! Through the joint efforts of teachers and students in the English department, junior undergraduate English Majors achieved impressive results in TEM-4.

55 students of Class 2021 participated in the June 2023 TEM-4 exam, , with a one-time pass rate of 100%. 51 people have achieved “Excellent” and “Good” levels, with an excellent rate of 92.7%. 32 students have achieved the “Excellent” level, with an excellent rate of 58%. Among them, 7 students scored above 90 points, with the highest score of 93 points. A total of 5 students achieved, namely Chen Jinping, Lin Yumeng, Wang Yu, Yin Yi, and Zhang Yutong.

The students of Class 2020 also achieved brilliant results in in TEM-4, 51 students took the examination, of which 46 took the 2022 examination and 5 took the 2023 examination , with a one-time passing rate of 100%. Among them, 47 students got the grades of “Excellent”and “Good”, with an excellent rate as high as 92.2%, and 26 students have achieved the “Excellent” level, with an excellent rate of 51%.

The good results are the reward of all the teachers of the English Department’s dedicated teaching and students’ diligent study, but also the result of the English Department’s high emphasis on the quality of undergraduate talent cultivation, student-centered, student-centered approach, emphasis on teaching quality, and comprehensive promotion of the fundamental task of moral education.

During the preparation for the examination of English 1 class of 2021, the class tutor, Ms. Xu Luming, led the students to review the TEM-4 starting from the accumulation of vocabulary in the first stage, and urged them to do listening training every day. In the later stage,special review will be carried out based on the actual problems of the TEM-4,consolidating the students’ skills in all aspects. Ms. Xu Luming also organized weekly mock exams to understood the situation of each student with correction,analysis and evaluation on students’ answers, and followed up the suggestions in a timely manner. Mr. Zhang Zhiyou, the tutor of English 2 class of 2021, focused on the overall grasp of the the TEM-4, led the students to do a lot of exercises for each module in class, and distributed detailed handouts prepared by himself to the students. He also used his spare time to lead the students to summarize and review by combining both online and offline methods. In the process of preparing for the exam, the students of the English Department of the class of 2021 worked hard, fearless of challenges, encouraged each other, and made progress together. It is precisely with the meticulous and professional guidance of experienced class guides, the high-quality teaching of all English department teachers, and the unremitting efforts of students themselves that 2021 English major students can shine brightly in the TEM-4 exam.
