Mr. Li Jie of the Department of Engineering English Was Invite to Give a Lecture on the Teaching Model of College English at the Online Seminar of FLTRP

On April 18, 2022, Deputy Head of the Department of Engineering English, Mr. Li Jie, on behalf of SWJTU, was invited to deliver a lecture on “The Construction and Exploration of ‘the Five-Sphere Integrated’ Blended Teaching Model of College English” as the opening speaker in the first seminar of the series of online seminars on teaching and learning organized by the Foreign Studies Society (Sichuan, Jiangxi, Chongqing, Tibet).

At present, under the influence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the opportunities for regular offline college foreign language teachers’ seminars and exchanges are forced to be blocked. This online seminar involving four provinces and one municipality (Sichuan, Gan, Xiang, Chongqing, and Tibet) provides a rare platform for college foreign language teachers in these regions to exchange information and learn from each other, and the number of people who studied live for the first time on the 18th alone exceeded 10,000.

Facing the enthusiasm of nearly 10,000 teachers to exchange and learn, Mr. Li Jie introduced the construction and successful experience of SWJTU’s foreign language in recent years in a calm and generous manner, clearly and ably. After that, he introduced the practical experience of our school’s tiered teaching, and how we have stimulated students’ enthusiasm for learning English and have created an authentic language practice environment and ensured a steady increase in the passing rate of CET-4 and CET-6 through the “the Five-Sphere Integrated” blended teaching model under the environment of credit reduction and credit hour reduction. He also introduced how we have achieved the goal of enabling every student to love English, learn English, and use English in a way that is within their ability, and to achieve the goal of long-term learning and lifelong learning.

Mr. Li Jie introduced our school’s special learning model of “Group Reading and Discussion”, taking Unit 5 of New Horizons College English Reading and Writing Course as an example from three aspects: independent input, communication and output, and reflective evaluation, and explained how the innovation of this model can break the dullness of the classroom, make the classroom change, promote inquiry-based and personalized learning, and integrate “Curriculum Ideology and Politics” into daily inspiring teaching.

The teaching enthusiasm of the participating teachers were infected by Mr. Li’s wonderful report, and the whole live exchange process was a constant stream of praise and flower delivery. At the end of the lecture, the participating teachers also actively interacted with Mr. Li, putting forward their confusions and suggestions they wished to seek, and Mr. Li listened carefully and answered patiently one by one.

This online seminar not only meets the needs of many College English teachers to think about teaching and learning and to keep making progress, but also showcases and exchanges the success and experience of our College English teaching reform and practice. Let us grasp more industry dynamics, let more peers understand us, and make more in-depth College English teaching reform possible.
