On May 12, 2024, the Department of International Chinese Education, School of Foreign Languages (SFL), joined hands with School of International Education to hold a Chinese corner activity. The activity, held at the Foreign Language Salon, got the theme of “Embrace”.
To strive for educational globalization and cultural diversity, the school organized the Chinese corner activity for cultural exchange and mutual understanding. Ms. Wang Hailing, a teacher from the Department of International Chinese Education, organized students from the department to communicate with international students in Southwest Jiaotong University. During the event, local and international students exchanged ideas on views of friendship in ancient and modern China and how modern youth make friends. In addition, participants had a heated discussion on how to ride on the trend of the times, seek common ground while shelving differences, and enhance cooperation to embrace a better future. In traditional Chinese culture, the “kindred spirit” used to be the core of friendship; in today’s world, welcoming like-minded partners to take part in the joint construction of the Belt and Road and embracing the world with an open attitude is what Chinese culture calls for.
The Chinese corner provides students with an opportunity to get in touch with different cultures. It is expected that a more harmonious and diverse cultural setting will be created in the campus where students will stay open and inclusive, respect and understand different cultures.
